Dental Implant and Root Canal Treatment for Fractured Incisor

– Case Description

In a recent case, a patient suffered an accident resulting in a fracture of their upper right central incisor. Seeking a solution for the damaged tooth, the patient opted for a dental implant. However, upon further examination through a CBCT scan, it was discovered that a root piece remained in the socket, and the buccal cortex was thin with reduced vertical height of the bone. To address these challenges, a comprehensive treatment plan was developed.

Dental Implant

Treatment Plan

The first step in the treatment plan was the extraction of the remaining root piece. This procedure was performed smoothly and with minimal bone osteotomy to preserve the surrounding tissues. Following the extraction, a bone grafting procedure was carried out to address the hard tissue loss. The purpose of the bone graft was to enhance the quality and quantity of the bone in the area, creating a suitable environment for the dental implant. Once the bone grafting was completed, the dental implant procedure could proceed. A 4.1/10mm implant size was chosen and carefully placed in the tooth socket, slightly palatally to preserve the buccal cortex. The implant was secured with good torque, ensuring stability and long-term success. This step was crucial in restoring both the functionality and aesthetics of the patient’s smile.

This crown would not only provide a natural appearance but also protect the tooth and provide strength for everyday use. The crown would be custom-made to match the patient’s existing teeth, ensuring a seamless and harmonious smile. Due to the complexity of the case and the need for optimal healing, a delayed loading approach was chosen. This means that the patient would have to wait for a period of 5 months before the final restoration could be placed. This waiting period allows for proper integration of the implant with the surrounding bone, reducing the risk of complications and ensuring long-term success.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the patient’s journey towards restoring their fractured upper right central incisor involved a multi-step treatment plan. Through the extraction of the root piece, bone grafting, dental implant placement, root canal treatment, and the eventual placement of an aesthetic crown, the patient’s oral health and smile were successfully restored. The careful planning and execution of each step ensured a reliable and effective solution for the patient’s dental needs.
